World Summit on Food Security

The third  World Summit on Food Security has been taking place this week in Rome under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN. FAO resources on world hunger are here and Project Syndicate carries an article from Jose Manuel Barroso on the importance of the summit here. Speech-by-speech highlights from the past two days of the summit are here and here. U.N. officials say roughly 1 billion people — one of every six people on the planet — don’t get enough to eat. On Monday, leaders present at the summit unanimously adopted a declaration pledging renewed commitment to eradicate hunger from the face of the earth sustainably and at the earliest date.
